Title: Summer of Irreverence — The Rock Star
Author: Cathrine Goldstein
Published by: The Wild Rose Press
Date Read: 18 June 2016
Rating: 3/5 stars
Synopsis from Goodreads:
Straight-laced, veterinary surgeon, Summer Wynters is ready to break the rules. And who better to break them with than the most irreverent of all men, mega rock star Malcolm Angel? With one last summer free from work obligations, Summer moves to New York City, and at the coaxing of her friend, pretends to be a model so she can spend one wild night with Malcolm.
Rock star, Malcolm Angel, tortured by a dark past, may be the poet laureate of romance, but he, like science-minded Summer, has never believed in romantic love. How could he? With his history, he doesn’t deserve to be loved.
When Summer’s honesty, kindness, and exuberance for life changes his perspective, the two discover they are in deeper than either dreamed possible. But when Malcolm discovers Summer’s been perpetuating a lie, will he forgive her? Even if forgiveness is possible, can a man immune to love teach someone else to believe in it?
Summer of Irreverence is one of those underrated stories that caught my attention because of its unique title and cute cover. Malcolm and Summer’s story actually took me by surprise – it is simple, cute and easy to get into. Reading Summer of Irreverence is very timely to the summer season that is approaching in the States as well.
Malcolm Angel is a famous rock star with a dark past who believes nothing about love. He has his own girl conquests each night and always got nothing more to give than today until he met Summer.
Malcolm’s character may seem a little flat all throughout the story but he was able to convey his emotions on the important parts of the story.
“You know I don’t believe in love. I’m sorry, but love just doesn’t exist. Scientifically, it makes no sense. You know what the purpose of the human heart is? To beat.”
Summer is your typical straight laced veterinary surgeon who doesn’t believe in love as well. But before she embarks on real adult life and working towards her dream career as a vet, she wanted to have a summer full of just fun. Summer is a delightful character to read about. Her dialogues are funny and though I don’t agree to her decisions at times I can’t help but also understand where she’s coming from.
Together, these two embarks on a summer filled with random dates, dog walks and concerts. But then secrets are revealed and the true test of love will start for them.
Overall, it was a fun-paced and easy story to read. A good by the beach read to bring on to your summer vacation.
